Staff pick, Powell's City of Books: "One of the most interesting and bizarre
stores of the Oregon Coast. Envisioned as the 'Atlantic City of the West,'
Bayocean's development began in 1907 and it included hotels, restaurants,
dancehalls, a two-story mercantile, a massive natatorium with heated pools,
59 private homes and over 40 rental cabins. Insanity, the Great Depression,
World War II, and ultimately, Mother Nature, led to its demise. The narrow
spit is now a county park and all that remains of Bayocean is its name.

Staff favorite, Oregon Historical Society gift shop:
“The story of a community: man vs. man and
man vs. nature, with the result now a mostly
invisible Oregon ghost town. Detailed and
    extensively researched, the author’s passion
for this somewhat forgotten and unique piece
of Oregon is obvious.”  – Scott Daniels
